The stunning beauty and diversity of Chile is amongst some of the finest in Latin America! This spindly country that stretches out over more than 4,300km is home to just about every interesting geological form on the planet. From the northern stretches of the fascinating Atacama Desert (the driest desert in the world and home to geysers, salt flats, exquisite landscapes, impressive national parks and archaeological sites), all the way down to the massive freezing glaciers in the south. The middle of the country is jam-packed with interesting features too, The mighty Andes mountain range that comes complete with volcanoes and glacial capped peaks; The incredibly scenic and remote fjords; The unspoiled coastal beaches; dense ancient forests; powerful rivers and sparkling lakes.

Easy infrastructure, spectacular sights and hospitable hosts, the hardest part is choosing where to go! A special treat for history and archaeology buffs is Rapa Nui (Easter Island) and Isla Robinson Crusoe, nothing can surpass the isolated and remote feeling as you land on the islands. Traditional sightseeing, trekking and diving trips are all available. If you want a livelier place, Santiago is a wonderful cosmopolitan city to visit and a great introduction to the culture of the country. Spend an afternoon visiting some of the famous Chilean wineries located nearby, or increase your tour to several days by adding time in the beach towns of Vina del Mar or Isla Negra, with accommodations at local haciendas.

For some of the most pristine beauty, head south to the Lake District towns of Pucon and Puerto Montt, or to the very remote National Park of Torres del Paine. Those adventurous ones of you will find world class white water rafting, sea kayaking, mountain biking, horseback riding, trekking, hiking and mountain climbing all with-in easy reach. Sailing options include trips through the fjords to the San Rafael Glacier, or an overland trip into Argentina via the famous "Lake Crossing"--a series of 4 buses and 3 boats ending in Bariloche, or cruising through the Magellan Strait to Tierra del Fuego and viewing some impressive wildlife and scenery along the way.

But don’t forget that Chile is as much about character as it is setting. Its far-flung location fires the imagination and has been known to make poets out of barmen, dreamers out of presidents and friends out of strangers. A few wrong turns and detours and you too will be sucked in to this tightly woven family who barbecue almost every weekend. Don’t forget to bring an extra bottle of red to the long, lazy dinners that await you!
